How to Wear Grip Socks With Team Socks

You have your grip socks. You have your team socks. And now you're wondering how to make both work together without sacrificing the grip that made you buy them in the first place.

You're not alone. It's one of the most common questions we get asked at Immerse Performance — and the answer is simpler than you think.

Why Grip Socks Need Direct Contact

Before we get into the how, it helps to understand the why. Grip socks work by placing rubber grip pads between two surfaces — your foot and the inside of your boot. When those two surfaces are locked together, your foot stops sliding, your power transfers more efficiently, and your control improves.

The moment you put a full team sock between your grip sock and your boot, you break that connection. The grip has nothing to grip against. You lose most of the benefit.

So the challenge is keeping your grip sock in direct contact with the inside of your boot, while still wearing your team sock for appearances or regulations.

The Sleeve Method — Used by Professional Athletes

This is the method used by professional athletes around the world, and once you try it, you'll never go back.

What you need:

• Your Immerse grip socks

• Your team or game socks

• A pair of scissors

Step 1.

Take your team socks and cut across the foot section just below the ankle. You are removing the foot entirely and keeping only the leg tube.

Step 2.

Put your Immerse grip socks on first. Pull them up fully so they sit correctly on your foot with the rubber grip pattern flat against your sole.

Step 3.

Pull the team sock sleeve over your leg, on top of the grip sock. It should sit from your ankle up to your knee, covering the leg portion of your grip sock.

Step 4.

Put your boot on. Your grip sock foot is now in direct contact with the inside of the boot. Your team sock sleeve gives you the visual appearance of wearing full team socks.

The grip works exactly as it should. Nobody can tell the difference. And you're getting the full performance benefit of your Immerse Lock In technology.

Can I Just Wear Grip Socks Underneath Without Cutting?

Yes — if your team socks are thin enough, you can wear your grip socks underneath a full team sock and still get partial benefit. The grip will have less direct contact with the boot, so performance won't be at its peak, but it is better than no grip at all.

For maximum performance, the sleeve method is always the better option.

What About Wearing Grip Socks on Top?

Some athletes wear their grip sock over the top of a thin base layer sock. This works well if you want extra cushioning underfoot. The rubber grip is still in contact with the boot, so the Lock In technology functions as normal. Just make sure the base layer sock isn't too thick or it will affect the fit inside your boot.

Tips for Getting the Best Out of Your Grip Socks

• Always put grip socks on before boots — never try to pull them on after

• Make sure the rubber grip pattern is sitting flat against your sole before lacing up

• If using the sleeve method, cut your team socks cleanly so the sleeve sits smoothly

• Replace grip socks when the rubber starts to wear down — worn grip means less traction
